Thank you, C.C., I have a few sparky ones in the works - food for thought types that I hope will provide insight and dialogue.

Supporting a kid's interest is tough! There's all the time, energy, and schedule juggling, not to mention the distress we, as dads, have to go through when our son/daughter wants to do something we don't know anything about (or necessarily agree with).

We made it through the first ice skating lesson. My son spent a half hour falling and falling., while I spent a half hour cringing in helpless agony behind a glass wall. Though, I couldn't help but have glowing pride when he'd get up after every fall.

He finally did skate for 20 ft.!

Thanks. There was an immediate uproar, including a "Mr. Premier, tear down this fence!" So the IOC and Vancouver Olympic organizers had to address it immediately. This is a good article about it:
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/canada/breakin...

A fine post. One would think there were more eloquent ways of fencing around the torch area. Chain-link says "no" in so many ways. Hopefully, few dreams were harmed in the process.

This is a hell of a first post here and of course now the pressure is on YOU to keep writing this great. *grin*

You hit on what my parenting philosophy has always been and that is to let the kids chase every interest that they get and when they find something that turns into a passion to feed it with every drop of support possible.

Right now that is Lacrosse for my son and fashion design & acting for my daughter. Will either of them turn into a career and glory for them? I don't know, but I'm certainly not going to get in the way of their dreams if that is what they want.
