Sony Dads

sonydads

I’ve been hoping that brands would begin to realize that Dads are just as active in the decisions being made about what products to buy. I think this is extra true when it comes to electronics and gadgets around the house. So, when Sony approached me about testing out some of their equipment and taking part in their Sony Dads project how could I say no.

Watch my introduction video where I explain why I’m doing it and what it means. (here is the “tripod” I mention in the video)

You can read the press release and in the coming weeks you can expect to see a mix of posts here as I try out the products and share my honest reviews of them. They are sending us this equipment for free and for review purposes only. We have to send them all back.

I’m personally most excited to check out the cameras and the eBook Reader. You all know I’m a camera junkie and a Kindle lover. Stay tuned!

This post is part of series called the “Sony DigiDads Project” by Sony Electronics where a group of dads, including C.C. Chapman, Jeffrey Sass, Max Kalehoff, Michael Sheehan, and Brad Powell, have been given the opportunity to test and review Sony gear. If you want to know more about this project, head on over to the Sony Electronics Community.

C.C. Chapman is a father of two (a boy and a girl) who loves the outdoors, creating media and playing with technology. When not on the computer he can most likely be found cooking or taking photos. He is also the co-founder of The Advance Guard and a busy public speaker.

    C.C.,

Found your blog over at Chris Brogan's blog where he was talking about this project. Can't wait to see what you come up with, especially after watching that video intro.

The blog looks sweet -- I have been reading it all morning instead of working. The boss is not too happy, but what are you going to do.

Looking forward to being part of the community.

    Lates yo!
  • Glad you guys are excited about the program.

I'm having fun already with the whole family trying things out. The Vaio laptop they gave us has turned into our "living room laptop" meaning that it sits on the coffee table and get randomly used by us when we are sitting and watching TV. So far my wife has used it more then any of us.
  • We'll definitely be keeping up with this one - looking forward to hearing all about the new Sony gear!

Hopefully, you'll consider the SAF (Spousal Acceptance Factor) in your reviews. I like big screens and speakers a bit more than my wife does.
  • Nice move on Sony's part to realize that dads play a role in big ticket purchases. I think it's great that there's a real interest in engaging more dads to help spread the word, good or bad, about products that so many of us are interested in buying. I'd rather get feedback from you guys than some over-the-top, uber-nerdy forum where they nit pick everything to death.

Oh, new reader of the site...just grabbed your feed so I don't miss out. I'm looking into a new HD camcorder so I'm interested in how all of this develops.
  • Very cool. It is good to see brands start to pay attention to dads. We are more connected than they think. Looking forward to following along.
  • I think that is very cool that Sony is recognising the role of Digidads. Fathers are often overlooked in terms of the role they play in the lives of their children. We are hands-on and we made decisions on how certain things affect our children and enable us to interact with our children. I have a video camera that was dormant until my son was born (2 years ago). Now I have hours of video that I need to sort / compile. I bought a tripod because my arm would get tired in certain instances. I am also starting to record myself and my thoughts for him. We engage with technology as fathers in so many different ways, beyond merely just loving gadgets. Hopefully, brands beyond your space will start recognising this. Looking forward to hearing about the Sony stuff.
