Getting Creative With My Daughter

One thing I love about having kids is watching how they grow up and figure out what their passions are in life.

Emily Explains ItWe all know that these can change with the seasons and especially when they are young and trying out every sport and after school activity that comes along. My kids have been through soccer, baseball, swimming and a bunch of other activities that requires time, effort and plenty of scheduling.

My daughter Emily has really started to come in her own with her introduction to the stage. I could tell from early on that she was going to highly creative and since I did theater growing up, and am a proud member of Alpha Psi Omega, I wanted to see what she thought of it. Needless to say she was hooked almost immediately.

Now, we’ve started a new creative project together called Emily Explains It. I only meant it as a joke one night over dinner when she explained something perfectly to her brother that I had a hard time simplifying down for a kid. I made some comment about her doing a show where she explains things. Only problem was, two weeks later she asked when we were actually going to do it. So I fired up the video camera, bought the domain and now we have a video podcast where she explains questions and topics. So far we’ve talked about what a podcast is and what some of her favorite web sites are.

I’m excited about this because it gives us a project to do together and it is something that really is all her vision. I wonder how long it will last and how long it will still be fun for her. Personally I’m hoping for a long time, but you never know with kids.

Now I’ve got to figure out what to do with Dylan. He keeps talking about building video games. Looks like I’ve got some researchto do.

I check the “Emily Explains It” website and I think its awesome, I actually feel that I need to get my daughter more involved in what I do on the web so that she can have a appreciation of what is it that I do so much on the computer all the time.

    Great job, keep it up.
